On Killing a Tree” Note with PDF.

What role does the earth play in the life of a tree?

The
role of earth in the life of a tree is too great to be exaggerated. It can be
compared to the role of a mother in the life of her child. Atfirst, a tree
hides itself under earth in the shape of a seed. Then sucking the earth’s
nutrients and  water nourishes itself and
grows up into a plant. Then it comes out from the earth. But root which is the
source of strength and life of a tree remains under the earth. The tree hides
it there. The earth also protects it carefully as a mother protects her child’s
life from danger.

“On Killing a Tree”- is about man’s cruelty upon tree.

“On
killing a tree” is truly a satirical poem where the poet Gieve patel
satiries man’s Cruel activities that lead an innocent, benebolent tree to
death. The poet himself uses the word “killing” instead of felling or
cutting of the tree. He satirically supplies men different means to harm a tree
and also the means of destruction. He has said that a simple jab of a knife
only harms a tree but is unable to destroy it completely as the wounds created
by the knife will heal. So, he suggests to lie a tree with rope and then to
pull off the root, the strength of the tree entirely from earth cave. Then it
is the matter of scorching, choking, browning, twisting and withering. Thus a
tree gets a cruel and painful death. Human being are so cruel that they cut
tree continuously  being unaware of the
fact that their only inviting their danger by cutting such benebolent friends
like trees.
