“You are a very gallant young man”- who is the young man?
In the story
“The eyes have It” the young man is the narrator, Ruskin Bond.
Why is he called “gallant young man”?
During their
conversation the narrator praised the girl for her “interesting
face”. He knew that it was a daring act to praise and unknown girl. But he
thought that most girls cannot resist this. So, the girl also would not resist.
The girl accepted his appreciation with a clear ,ringing love. The girl told
him that she was tired of listening that she had a pretty face. In the time the
narrator knew that she had a pretty face and quickly replied that an
interesting face could also be preety. The girl took him to be a very gallant
young man for such a frank comment as he could not hesitate to appreciate her.
How does the remark impress him?
The narrator
did not give any reply to this question. He tried to laugh for her but the
thought of laughter only made him feel troubled and lonely.
