Why is the poet sad in the last
couplet of the poem?

The poet personifying the wind
has presented it to be very lively throughout the poem. In this poem the Wind
delivered the news of action at dawn to all like ships, mariners,
wood bird, cornfields, cock etc. It seems to be very energetic. But
suddenly there is the contrary presented by the poem in the last couplet where
the wind is passing by a grave where dead people are lying in peace. The happy
wind feels sorry for those dead. For this the wind which is delivering the news
of action, is now seen to say “Not yet in quite lie”. It tells the dead
people to lie in quiet and peace. Thus the poet again personifies the Wind
by ingesting in it the feeling of sensitivity.
