Why does the poet compare
the soldier’s smile to the smile of an infant?

In the poem “Asleep in the valley” a oldier is presented lying on a sunlit valley keeping his mouth open. An
innocent childish smile prevails on his face. The anti-war poet makes this
comparison only the depict the tragedy of the young dead soldier as well as
war  which wastes previous lives. The
poet describes his smile as “without guile”. That means there is no
pretension in his smile. Rather there are some dishonest politicians who
pretend of doing welfare of their country by sending young people in the war.
Only for them the  youngs have to lose
their lives early. But after their death the politicians donot care for them or
their families. So, through this comparison the poet indirectly attacks those
who destroy precious lives to satisfy their own intention.
