Sidda character

    R.K Narayan has illustrated two
different classes of the same society. One is the boastful in human rich class
and the other is downtrodden, poor class. Sidda an illiterate poor boy was
representative of the second class. Mr. Sivashanker appointed him in his house.

   Obedient Sidda performed all his
duties of washing clothes, tending
garden, chopping wood and looking after Leela.

    Sidda unable to copy the
alphabets and draw pictures was adept in telling stories and answering Leela’s
questions. He was Leela’s soul mate, but to Mr. Sivasanker, he was just a
servant. For this when Leela lost her chain, Mr. Sivasanker Lodged a complaint
against him. But his innocence was proved at last when the chain was found
inside a Tamarind pot.

Thus a poor boy was transformed
into a tragic character and a victim of the society system, that only stands by
the upper class people.
